Seeing the Road Ahead: Protecting, Repairing and Replacing Windscreens

Two tips for car manufacturers who intend to install car lifts in their facilities

If you own a car manufacturing business and intend to install a car lift in it so that you can easily transport your newly made vehicles from one part of your facility to another, here are some tips that you might find useful.

Keep the areas near the lift doors free from obstructions

It is important to make sure that the areas near the doors of your car lift are kept free from obstructions (such as, for example, tools, rubbish and any materials you use to make your products). There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, any small, sharp debris that is left lying on the floor nearby could damage the tyres of the vehicles as they emerge from the car lift (even something as small as a nail, a screwdriver or a broken shard of sheet metal could puncture the tyre's rubber).

If this type of damage occurs, you would have to arrange for one of your employees to replace the affected tyres. This could then have a negative impact on that employee's ability to complete their other assigned tasks on time (which could affect your facility's overall efficiency levels) and could also result in a reduction in your enterprise's profits (as you would have to incur the cost of replacing the punctured tyres).

Secondly, larger obstructions (such as, for example, piles of boxes, bulky materials, forklifts, etc) could affect the speed with which your employees are able to move the vehicle from the lift to the area of the facility where they need to bring it, as when they emerge from the lift with the car, they will not be able to immediately continue their journey but will instead have to spend time moving the aforementioned obstructions out of the way before they can proceed any further.

As such, you should instruct one of your staff members to regularly inspect this area of your facility and tell them to ensure that it is kept from debris, equipment and other obstructions at all times.

Make sure employees dress appropriately when operating the lift

It is absolutely essential to ensure that any of your employees who use the car lift to transport vehicles around the facility dress appropriately. The reason for this is as follows; if a staff member is wearing loose-fitting trousers or a loose-fitting top, or if they have long hair which they have left untied, their garments or a strand of their hair could get trapped in the doors of the car lift or in the gap between the lift shaft and the lift itself. This could lead to them sustaining serious injuries, as their head or one of their limbs could get pulled very forcefully by the moving lift.

Given this, you must insist that employees who operate your car lift only do so when they are suitably dressed for this task. They should wear fitted clothing and should remove any dangling jewellery (such as a long necklace or long pair of earrings) before they begin. Additionally, if they have long hair, they should tie it into a bun.
