Tired of Plumbing Pipe Problems? Lagging Is the Answer

Plumbing, even when properly installed, can be the source of so many annoying problems, some of which can create a bigger mess if not addressed eventually. One of the best ways to reduce, if not eliminate, these problems is to install pipe lagging. This is a type of pipe insulation with multiple purposes. When pipe lagging is installed, you'll notice the plumbing becomes quieter and is less susceptible to freezing which can wreak havoc on uninsulated pipes.

When You're Tired of Plumbing Noises

The use of PVC piping in place of materials like cast iron has benefits, but one of the disadvantages is that the plumbing becomes so much noisier. If you're in a home where you hear toilets flushing loudly and massive racket from shower pipes when you take a shower, you're hearing water rushing through PVC pipe material. Insulating those pipes helps dampen the noise from those pipes and can make your home or business a more peaceful place to be.

When You're in a Freezing Area

Regions of Australia that freeze in the winter—high-altitude towns, ski resorts, and so on—have to be careful with water pipes. The water can freeze in the pipes, and that ice expands, causing cracks in the pipes. When the water thaws, it leaks out of those cracks. Insulating the pipes with pipe lagging is essential for keeping the pipes and everything around them safe from this freezing and bursting. Lagging should have been installed when the building was constructed, but if you find out that some of the pipes there are not insulated, you need to have pipe lagging installed immediately.

When Condensation off the Hot Water Pipes Is a Problem

If you regularly use very hot water and the pipes aren't insulated properly, the hot water inside the pipes can clash with the cold air outside the pipes to form condensation that creates a moldy environment. Not to mention that if the condensation started to drip, that dripping sound is very unwelcome. You really want the pipes in your building to be insulated well, and calling a company to add lagging becomes a top task on the to-do list.

Call and ask for an inspection to find out which pipes are not insulated properly. While you don't need every single pipe to have lagging, there are spots that should be insulated for the best pipe performance.
